Luxury Southern California Resort Strips Room as Price Lowers
The award-winning resort in San Diego is running an unusual promotion that offers rooms for as low as $19. The catch is that the lower the price, the less travelers receive with their rooms.

It’s the age-old question asked when traveling: How much is one willing to do without to get that ultra-low price on a room?
In a twist on this, the general manager of the Rancho Bernardo Inn in San Diego is offering the Survivor Package, which lowers the price as more creature comforts are taken away from the room.
The package starts at $219 per night (taxes extra) for a deluxe room with breakfast for two. As the rate lowers, amenities are removed until the room gets to the base rate of $19. That’s not a typo – it really is possible to get a luxury hotel room at this resort for less than $20. But only if one is willing to bring everything including a bed.

So in order to get that ultra-low rate on the room, the traveler has to be willing to give up everything, including toilet paper and the bed itself. Basically what one ends up with are four walls, working plumbing in the bathroom and floor space to sleep on.
Think of it as camping indoors at a luxury resort. Bring an air mattress and toiletries and rough it in style. At least there’s a lock on the door and use of the resort’s common areas, including the pool, is still included.

The Rancho Bernardo Inn is a luxury resort set on a golf course located about 30 minutes north of the airport, off I-15. The resort recently underwent a $25 million renovation and features beautiful manicured grounds, a day spa and award-winning restaurants.
