London's hotels are notoriously expensive, but many of the city's universities provide budget accommodation during the summer months.

London is one of the world's priciest cities, with accommodation topping the list of expenses. But travelers don't have to sacrifice cash for convenience. Many of London's university dorms open their doors to travelers in the summer months or over Christmas and Easter breaks. While they may not have all of the amenities of a five-star hotel, the rooms are clean and comfortable, and breakfast is often included.

City University London

For as little as £19 per person, you can stay at City University London's Finsbury Residence. A variety of pubs and restaurants are located within walking distance, and nearby public transport links make places like Piccadilly Circus, the West End and the South Bank easily accessible. City University London also offers year-round accommodation for those traveling out of season.

Imperial College London

Imperial College London has over 1,600 single and double rooms available for both short and long stay. Imperial College's location in South Kensington puts you on the doorstep of some of London's best museums and world-class shopping, with prices starting at just £24 per person per night, including VAT and a full English breakfast.

Kings College London

London's main tourist attractions are just a short walk or Tube ride away from Kings College London's four residences. Kings College London offers budget accommodation in Waterloo and London Bridge in central London and in suburban Hampstead and Denmark Hill. Prices start at just £28.99, with a range of accommodation available, including room only, bed and breakfast, full and half board options for single travelers and groups.

London School of Economics

LSE offers bed and breakfast and self-catering accommodation at its many residences in central London. For as little as £33 for a single, £45 for a twin and £64 for a triple, you can stay within walking distance of Covent Garden, Oxford Street, Tower Bridge, Shakespeare's Globe, or St. Paul's Cathedral. In 2008, LSE opened year-round accommodation, LSE TopFloor!

Queen Mary, University of London

Queen Mary, University of London offers private single and twin rooms in the heart of London's East End. Queen Mary's campus is within walking distance of Mile End and Stepney Green underground stations, putting central London's attractions within easy reach. Rates start as low as £23.

University College London

Conveniently located near Victoria Station and just steps from Buckingham Palace and Green Park, UCL's Goldsmid House offers single rooms with en suite facilities. Breakfast is not included in the accommodation, but guests have access to a shared kitchen. Rates start at £40 per night.

University of Westminster

The University of Westminster has six residences within central and suburban London, all with excellent transport links nearby.

London's universities aren't the only universities that offer budget accommodation in the UK.
